Long Haul Belching (19:00)

_{I’m squeezed behind the wheel in my Big Boar Trucking long-sleeve, camo cap low, glasses on, and Diet Pepsi at my side. The caffeine keeps my eyes open, and the burps start strong, but get stuck often as I’m sitting. The more I drink, the more every swig inflates me until I’m groaning, shifting in the seat, doing anything to work out those stubborn little burps. Give it a few miles and the trickle turns into thunder: I brace, lean forward, and let loose belches that rattle the cab. By the time I roll into a highway rest stop near the end of the trip, I’m so bloated I practically roar while washing up, wiping my hands, and admiring the full-body view in the mirror. Back on the road, more belches of different sizes roll out. As I get to my destination, I pull into the lot and let one last monster belch rip before stepping out for good.
